Laura Mulvey- feminism and post feminism

  • British feminist film theorist
  • men controlled the action and were responsible for moving the narrative along
  • women were represented as passive objects of the male gaze
  • pleasure in viewing comes from voyeurism , narcissism , fetishism, scopophilia and female objectification.
voyeurism-
Narcissism - Self-love: an exceptional interest in and admiration for yourself; “self-love that shut out everyone else” someone in love with themselves
Fetishism  - Weird things people get pleasure from eg. feet
Scopophilia ng pleasure out of looking and women are often use as that purpose , Feminists say alot of female are used purely for that pleasure. eg. playboy girls, victoria secret girls , Kim Kardashian
Female objectification – Less like a person more like an object, if a women is objectified she is stripped of her identity and dehumanised and made into an object and feminists says she has been changed into a males desire.
La Canes Mirror Theory  -  media and films acts as a mirror that reflects ourself, on how we should be within our life , some feminists say it dictates to how us females should be.
How are these females are being objectified?

Beyonce as a music artist has released many albums but more recently her albums and posters have formed a Digipack. The font stating her name is often decorated in a detailed way creating a feminine effect linking to the female target audience. the backgrounds of these products tend to differ consistently yet the main focus is Beyonce herself. In the albums , it is dear that they interlink with the posters with again soenic background and the mise en scene is similar involving the lighting , camera shots , make up and clothing. There tends to be medium close ups creating a sense of emotions which will be heard through her lyrics in her music.

    News Values

Filed under: Uncategorized — ermitsmina at 7:23 am on Wednesday, February 16, 2011

All the things which makes the news worthy :

    • if it can relate to the reader
    • Outcome
    • if the information is relevant
    • the content
    • Appeal to the target audience
    • continuity – events that are likely to have a continuing impact on readers , such as  2 week sports event , or the war.
    • REFERENCE TO ELITE PEOPLE – Stories concerned with the rich, powerful, famous and infamous get more coverage. Any story which covers an important, powerful nation (or organisation) has greater news values than a story which covers a less important nation. The same goes for people.
    • Thresholdan event has to reach a certain threshold before it becomes news- a small tremor might not be news whereas a sizable earthquake reaches the threshold to be reported. A house burglary might not be crime news but a violent murder will be. The intensity of an event/issue is important, too. The more violent a demonstration or murder, the more newsworthy it becomes.
